SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - (KELO-AM) - Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says there has been some discussion with the city and the state to relocate the community corrections center near the South Dakota Penitentiary. Milstead briefed the County Commission yesterday on a report from the National Institute of Corrections done in December. Milstead says the jail is often full and the minimum risk overflow goes to the aging corrections center on Russell Street. Milstead says the upper floor of the old jail could relieve some of the pressure by converting it into a dormitory setting. The Sheriff says a criminal justice planning committee should be appointed to consider options
