SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - They buzz and bite and are one drawback to summer.
Mosquitos can be more than a nuisance, some can transmit disease.
The American Mosquito Control Association says the three D’s of mosquito prevention are drain water containers, dress in long sleeves and pants and defend with repellents.
Denise Patton with the Sioux Falls Health Department says there are many products in the war on mosquitos. She says there are many commercial foggers that can allow you to enjoy barbecues or time on the patio wih friends. They don't last forever but they're good for an evening.
Patton says there are longer lasting pesticides that you can attach to your hose and spray on plants, grass and trees. Eliminating standing water is probably the most important thing you can do to control mosquitos.
Patton says this is National Mosquito Awareness Week.
