South Dakota exports growing

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota's merchandise exports increased six percent last year growing to $1.6 billion according to the International Trade Administration.

The Director of the Commercial Service Office in Sioux Falls, Cinnamon King, says merchandise exports to Brazil, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom increased almost sixty percent in each country.

King says jobs supported by manufactured exports pay up to 18% higher wages than those not related to shipping across borders.  She says if a company exports, they're able to weather changes in the U-S economy.  If something is going bad in the U-S, there's a market overseas or the season is different overseas.  She says exporting helps a company sustain business.

King's office helps South Dakota companies sell internationally which she says is key to growing business.
