WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO-AM) - Representive Kristi Noem wants to give states more power to collect sales taxes from online retailers. She has co-sponsored a bill that would give states authority to require online companies with no physical presence in the state to collect and remit sales tax.
"I think it makes common sense. It gives our main street businesses a level playing field," Noem says.
Noem also dealt with the issue of internet sales tax during her time in the state legislature. "When you're that close and seeing what the impact is on the state of South Dakota, its critically important."
Noem says the bill has a lot of support and she's pushing to have it included as part of a congressional tax reform package.
