ST. LOUIS (KWSN) — South Dakota State University cornerback Winston Wright has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Jackrabbits' 38-14 win at Western Illinois on Oct. 12.

A senior from Lee's Summit, Mo., Wright intercepted two passes — both of which the Jackrabbit offense turned into touchdowns — and added a pair of tackles as SDSU snapped a three-game losing streak. His first-quarter interception helped give SDSU a 14-0 lead, while his interception on the first play of the fourth quarter led to the Jackrabbits’ final score of the day.

The Jackrabbit defense held Western Illinois to only 118 yards through the air and picked off four passes on the afternoon.

SDSU returns to action Saturday (Oct. 19) at Missouri State.
