SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) On October 14, 2013, police were sent to a suicidal person that ended after the man was shot by an officer. Around 5 p.m., Sioux Falls police were sent to the 6600 block of West 15th Place. Before officers arrived, information was received that there was at least one gunshot fired from the home. Minnehaha County Sheriff Deputies were in the area and also assisted with the call.

SWAT and Crisis negotiators were called to the home around 6 p.m. While officers were on scene, another gunshot came from the home. During the standoff, there was some brief contact between the negotiators and the man. Shortly before 7 p.m., the man left his home and pointed a long gun at an officer. A SWAT officer shot the man, and he died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation was called to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
