South Dakota golf third at UND


GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KWSN)—Four South Dakota golfers placed in the top 15 as the Coyotes took third at the North Dakota Fall Classic hosted by King’s Walk Golf Course Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole event featured 38 competitors from five teams.

USD junior Janice Baumberger earned her first collegiate top-10 finish and was the ’Yotes top individual. Her three-day total of 242 (+26), good for sixth place, was highlighted by a 5-over-par 77 in round one.

Coyote freshman Brenna Lervick, who placed eighth in last week’s event, took eighth in this one as well. Lervick finished at 244 (+28), which was four strokes from a top-five finish.

Junior Jordan Rearick and sophomore Alyna Vaughan tied for 14th place at 249 (+33). Rearick opened the tournament with an 8-over-par 80. Vaughan finished it with a round of 80 Tuesday.

North Dakota State (934) placed four in the top five and was 37 strokes better than second-place North Dakota (971). Sarah Storandt finished at 9-over-par to earn medalist honors. North Dakota’s Sadie Martin was eight strokes back in second place. Omaha finished in fourth place at 991 and Minot State was fifth at 1,067.
