PIERRE, S.D.(KELO-AM) - Ty Littau has been hired as the new Agricultural Development Representative for the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.

“I am very excited to join the Department of Ag and Ag Development team,” said Littau. “I look forward to working with and serving our state’s producers.”

Representatives serve specific regions of South Dakota as a local resource in the many diverse areas of agriculture. Representatives work collectively with producers, landowners, developers and local leaders in identifying the quality growth opportunities that are vital to the long-term sustainability of our rural communities. Littau will be based in the Western region of South Dakota.

“We are pleased to have Ty join the Ag Development team,” said Paul Kostboth, Director of Agricultural Development. “His passion for agriculture in South Dakota will prove invaluable in the ongoing preservation and promotion of our state’s number one industry.”

Littau grew up on his family’s ranch near Carter, S.D., and graduated from Winner High School in 2009. He was an active member of the Winner FFA Chapter, Tripp County 4-H and served as the Governor at the 2008 American Legion Boys State. He is the son of LeRoy and Dawn Littau.

Littau is a 2013 graduate of South Dakota State University (SDSU) with an Ag-Business major. While at SDSU, Littau was a Student Advisory Team member for the Agriculture Future of America group, Admissions Ambassador and delivered the student address for the 2013 SDSU graduation ceremony.

More recently, Littau spent six months working near Catrilo, La Pampa, Argentina, with a local ranching family. In his time there, he worked in a feedlot, studied Spanish and learned about Argentine culture and agricultural production systems.
