Undated (KELO-AM) The South Dakota High School Activities Association is considering a first-ever policy on transgendered students.
SDHSAA Assistant Executive Director James Weaver says the Association wants to take a pro-active approach on an issue that Weaver says is becomming bigger and bigger across the country.
Some board members have concerns about how transgendered boys might impact girls teams. Weaver says part of the policy would be formation of a committee to look at individual cases and safety issues would be part of that evaluation.
The policy that the SDHSAA is considering is based on guidelines used in Illinois.
