Thune, Johnson frequent flyers at taxpayer expense

Washington, DC (KELO-AM) South Dakota Senators John Thune (R) and Tim Johnson (D) are two of the biggest users in Congress of taxpayer funded charter flights, according to a report in USA Today.

The newspaper reports that Thune and Johnson spent a combined total of some $100,00 flying at taxpayer expense last year. Spokesmen for the senators explain that they need to keep in touch with their constituents in a far-flung state with few large towns.

The most frequent flyer at taxpayer expense last year was New York Senator Chuck Schumer (D) at over $286,000.
