Cherokee, IA (KELO AM) - A sex offender that failed to return to a Cherokee, Iowa facility after work has been captured in Oklahoma.
Cory Blake West, age 42, was captured at a Tulsa hotel Thursday night by agents from the U.S. Marshals Service. He is being held as a fugitive from justice and awaits extradition back to Iowa.
West has been convicted of multiple sex offenses, most recently in Wapello, County, Iowa in 2008. He was committed to the Cherokee Mental Health Institute and after serving time for his conviction in Wapello County, and was a patient in the Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders program’s transitional release program.
The transitional release program allows patients to leave for court approved purposes, such as work.
