SHOT Show 2014 a Success

by

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO-AM) – South Dakota economic development officials are reporting another successful year at last month’s Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show.

“This was the 13th consecutive year South Dakota has exhibited at the SHOT Show,” said Pat Costello, Commissioner, Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “We have always found this to be a successful and beneficial trade show to attend, and this year was no different.”

Twelve communities and one company joined the GOED in Las Vegas to promote South Dakota’s Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor (SH&O) industry.  “Our delegation was pleased with the number of new and existing contacts they were able to connect with at the show,” said Costello.

“The participants came away from this show with new leads and stronger relationships with existing prospects,” Costello added. “I look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with these companies, and welcoming them to South Dakota in the future.”

The 2014 show also provided the perfect opportunity to promote South Dakota as CNBC’s Top State for Business. Joe Fiala, the GOED’s SH&O business development representative, was featured in a NRA News segment on Jan. 15, in which Fiala discussed the many benefits of doing business in South Dakota for SH&O companies.

The annual National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) SHOT Show in Las Vegas is the largest of its kind in the world. The exhibit space at the show is equivalent to 10.9 football fields with more than 12 miles of aisles. The SHOT Show hosted approximately 67,000 people this year, with 1600 exhibitors. There were 10 South Dakota companies exhibiting independently of the GOED at the show.

South Dakota’s delegation consisted of economic development representatives from Aberdeen, Britton/Glacial Lakes, Black Hills Power, Chamberlain, Huron, Madison, Mobridge, Mitchell, North Sioux City, Pierre, Rapid City, Sturgis and Watertown.
