SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The House Education Committee today killed a bill that would have repealled the Common Core Standards.
Republican Committee Chair Jacqueline Sly of Rapid City urged legislators to support the standards. Sly says the path has been established and now is the time for educators and students to carry on.
Bill sponsor and committee member, Republican Elizabeth May of Kyle, says the standards will fail. May sayS South Dakota would be better off establishing it's own standards.
Common Core has drawn criticism and support from educators and politicans. To date, most states have formerly adopted the standards.
The committee sent the bill to the 41st day of the 40 day session.
