SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KWSN) – Augustana College football announced its 2014 schedule on Wednesday.
The 2014 schedule features 11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests, including five home games.
Augustana opens the 2014 slate on the road and will play its first four games of the season against NSIC North Division foes.
The Vikings, led by second-year head coach Jerry Olszewski, will hit the road for the 2014 season opener taking on Minnesota Crookston on Sept. 6 in Crookston, Minn.
Augustana will then return to Sioux Falls for its home opener on Sept. 13, hosting Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. An in-state rivalry is up next for the Vikings as they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Northern State on Sept. 20.
The Vikings return to Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Sept. 27 for a "Viking Days" clash with the University of Mary at 1 p.m. Augustana will then turn its attention to the South Division as it will travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa on Oct. 4. The Third Annual "Key to the City" game between Augustana and Sioux Falls will take place at Kirkeby-Over Stadium at 1 p.m. on Oct. 11.
Both teams will also be playing for a point in the First Dakota National Bank "Mayor's Cup Challenge."
Augustana then travels to Wayne. Neb. on Oct. 18 to take on the Wildcats of Wayne State before closing-out the home portion of its 2014 schedule with two straight home games.
The Vikings welcome Minnesota State at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 before hosting Winona State at 1 p.m. on Nov. 1.
After two straight weeks at home, the Vikings will wrap-up the regular season with two straight road games. Augustana will play at Concordia-St. Paul on Nov. 8 and at Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 15.
Minnesota Crookston: Minnesota Crookston finished 2-9 last season … Augustana is 4-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles … the Vikings have out-scored Minnesota Crookston 203-7 in the all-time series … this will be Augustana's first game at Crookston since Sept. 13, 2008, a 59-0 win for the Vikings.
Minnesota Duluth: The Bulldogs tied for second in the NSIC last season, finishing 10-1 and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs … UMD was ousted from the playoffs by eventual national champion Northwest Missouri State … Augustana is 2-7 all-time against Minnesota Duluth … UMD won the most recent meeting, 42-34 in Duluth, Minn. … Augustana opened the 2011 season with Minnesota Duluth at home, losing 20-12, with both teams earning top 10 preseason national rankings.
Northern State: Northern State finished 4-7 last season, tying for ninth in the conference standings … Augustana is 27-6 all-time against Northern State … Augustana has won nine straight games over Northern State and 18 of the last 19 … Augustana opened the 2012 season with a 35-14 win over the Wolves at Kirkeby-Over Stadium … the last time Augustana played at Northern State the Vikings picked up a 27-24 win on Oct. 8, 2011.
U-Mary: The Marauders finished 6-5 last season, tying for fifth in the final conference standings … Augustana is 2-2 all-time against the Marauders … this will be just the second time U-Mary has visited Augustana since 2010 … the Vikings are 1-0 against the Marauders at home … U-Mary has won the last two meetings, both in Bismarck.
Upper Iowa: Upper Iowa finished 6-5 in 2013 tying for fifth in the NSIC … Augustana is 7-0 all-time against Upper Iowa … last season, Augustana defeated the Peacocks 35-6 at home on Oct. 19 … in 2012, Augustana played Upper Iowa, earning a 66-20 win over the Peacocks.
Sioux Falls: USF was 6-5 last season, tying for fifth in the NSIC … Augustana is 18-2 all-time against the Cougars … USF won last season's meeting 27-10 at Bob Young Field … in the first meeting between the two teams in 26 years USF snuck out of Kirkeby-Over Stadium with a 32-31 double-overtime win in front of 7,120 fans.
Wayne State: The Wildcats finished 2-9 last season … Augustana is 8-8 all-time against Wayne State … Wayne State has won two straight games over Augustana with a 10-7 win in Sioux Falls last season and a 31-27 win in Wayne, Neb. in 2012.
Minnesota State: Minnesota State won the outright conference championship last season going 11-0 … Augustana is 23-21 all-time against Minnesota State … the Vikings lost a close one in Mankato last season, falling 20-10 at Blakeslee stadium … in 2012, Minnesota State defeated Augustana 52-14 at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
Winona State: The Warriors finished 6-5 in 2013 … Augustana is 4-3 all-time against Winona State … The Warriors have won the last two meetings between the two teams with a 73-35 win in Sioux Falls in 2012 and a 28-24 win in Winona last season.
Concordia-St. Paul: The Golden Bears were 5-6 last season … the Vikings are 7-3 all-time against the Golden Bears … Augustana has won six straight games over Concordia-St. Paul … the Vikings picked up a 24-7 win over CU at Kirkeby-Over Stadium last season … Augustana is 4-1 all-time in road games against the Golden Bears.
Southwest Minnesota State: The Mustangs finished 7-4 last season and was the NSIC's representative at the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, Mo. … SMSU picked up its first win over Augustana since 1991 with a 34-24 win at Kirkeby-Over Stadium last season … Augustana is 15-3 all-time against SMSU and has won eight of nine games in Marshall, Minn.
