Chamber to host numerous legislative events in February

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has planned several activities for members to interact with elected officials during the legislative session, which kicks off today with the Governor's State of the State.

Three legislative coffees will be held on Saturdays (Feb. 1, 8, 22) from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown (201 E. 8th St.). A fourth legislative coffee will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.) from 10-11:30 a.m.

State lawmakers will discuss important issues currently before the South Dakota Legislature and answer questions from the public submitted through a moderator. The Sioux Falls area legislative delegation includes districts 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, as well as 16 and 25. Legislative coffees have been planned with districts 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Details of this year’s coffees are as follows:Saturday, Feb. 1: Districts 6, 9, 12 and 14; Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8: Districts 10, 11, 12 and 15; Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22: Districts 6, 9, 13 and 14; Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, 10-11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28: Districts 11, 12 and 15; Holiday Inn City Centre, 10-11:30 a.m.

The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will be live-tweeting from @SFAreaAdvocate using the hashtag #legcoffee. The Argus Leader will livestream the legislative coffees and people can view it at www.argusleader.com.

These legislative forums are sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, AARP, American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women, Democratic Forum, League of Women Voters, Minnehaha County Democratic Party, Minnehaha County Republican Party, National Women's Political Caucus South Dakota, and the Sioux Falls Education Association.

All legislative coffees are free and open to the public.

The 30th Annual Sioux Falls Day at the Legislature will take place in Pierre on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Attendees will leave Sioux Falls at 6:30 a.m., ride a bus to Pierre to attend committees at the Capitol in the morning, have lunch with Sioux Falls area legislators and listen to Gov. Dennis Daugaard and his Chief of Staff Dusty Johnson, attend session at the Capitol and host a reception in the Capitol Rotunda. Attendees will arrive back in Sioux Falls at approximately 8:30 p.m.
