Brookings, SD (KWSN)- South Dakota State director of athletics Justin Sell formally announced four new hires to the Jackrabbit athletics staff on Wednesday and the promotions of five other current staff members.

The four new additions to the staff include:

Jeff Holm – Senior Associate AD for Facilities and Operations

Brian Brunner – Assistant AD for Annual Giving

Carly Case – Athletic Academic Advisor

Kadero Watson – Football Operations Coordinator

Jeff Holm comes to South Dakota State from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, where he spent the last 13 years in various roles with the Vikings in both coaching and administration.

The head baseball coach at Augie from 2001-06, Holm worked in administration since 2006, including the last four years as the school’s associate athletic director.

A native of Brookings and former baseball player at Minnesota State, Mankato, Holm earned a bachelor's degree in math education with a minor in coaching from MSU in 1993, and went on to earn a master's degree in sport pedagogy from South Dakota State in 1997. While at SDSU, he served as an assistant baseball coach for the Jackrabbits.

Holm, who begins his duties at SDSU on July 28, returns to Brookings with his wife Amy, and their sons J.D. and Charlie.

Brian Brunner joined the Jackrabbit athletic staff on June 23, 2014, as the assistant athletic director for annual giving, where he oversees the day-to-day operations of the Jackrabbit Club and directs all annual solicitation efforts.

Brunner came to South Dakota State after spending the last four years in various roles at Central Michigan University. A former CMU student-athlete, he joined the Chippewa athletic department as its assistant director of the Chippewa Athletic Fund in November 2010, before earning a promotion to the Chippewa Athletic Fund director in 2013, where he oversaw its annual fundraising efforts.

In his time with the Chippewa Athletic Fund, Brunner played a key role in two, record-setting million-dollar plus annual fundraising campaigns.

During his CMU football career, Brunner appeared in 21 games at quarterback and served as a 2008 team captain. He earned Mid-American Conference West Offensive Player of the Week honors three times, earning an ESPN Helmet Sticker for his performance against Western Michigan in 2008. He also earned Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week after a record-breaking performance against Indiana in 2008. Brunner threw for 485 yards and four touchdowns in the Chippewas’ 37-34 upset of the Hoosiers. He also was named a 2008 National Strength and Conditioning All-American. Brunner lives in Brookings with his wife, Melanie.

Carly Case joined the Jackrabbit staff on June 14 as an athletic academic advisor, and comes to SDSU from Northern Kentucky University where she recently completed her master’s degree in business informatics.

While at NKU, where she also earned bachelor’s degree in sports business in 2010, Case spent the last two years working as a graduate assistant in the NKU athletics academics support office. She also worked with the women’s basketball team from 2007-10 as a student manager.

Joining the Jackrabbit football program as coordinator of operations is Kadero Watson. Watson, who began his duties on July 14, served the last two years as assistant director of event management and operations at the University of Oklahoma, where he was lead event manager for a number of sports and assisted in carrying out conference tournaments, NCAA postseason events and other special events.

Watson previously worked in football operations at three universities, starting as an undergraduate student assistant at Bucknell (Pa.). A two-year starter at running back, he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration at Bucknell in 2009. He moved on to a graduate assistant position at Oklahoma, where he also served as program coordinator for the Athletic Diversity Council Graduate Program. Watson spent part of the 2011 season as a volunteer football operations assistant at Richmond (Va.) before later returning to Oklahoma.

In addition to the new hires, five current SDSU athletic staff members earned promotions within the department.

Former senior associate athletic director for external operations, Leon Costello moved to deputy director of athletics. On staff since March of 2010, Costello oversees the day-to-day operations of the athletic department, while continuing in many of his same roles in external operations.

The first full-time compliance officer in school history, Kathy Heylens came to SDSU in 1984 and moved to athletics two years later. Along with her duties as the senior woman administrator, she moves from associate athletic director for compliance to senior associate athletic director for compliance, with added duties as a sport administrator.

In addition to her day-to-day duties within the department, Heylens serves on the Undergraduate Experience Committee, Diversity Committee, Intercollegiate Athletics Board and Compliance Team. She also volunteers in the community as co-chair of the Brookings Food Pantry and serves as a member of the Brookings Committee for People With Disabilities.

Another longtime member of the athletic staff, Tammy Loban started as SDSU in 1990 and moves from administrative assistant to assistant athletic director for administration. In her role, she manages all aspects of the human resources for the department and manages Sell’s daily schedule.

Ed Posaski came to SDSU in August of 2012 as the assistant athletic director for budget. He maintains his same duties as an associate athletic director, with added responsibility as a sports supervisor.

Brody Busho joined the Jackrabbit staff in August of 2013 as the facilities coordinator and then accepted the position of assistant athletic director for facilities and operations in June 2014.
