SIOUX FALLS, SD (KWSN) – First Dakota National Bank announced on Monday that Augustana College will hold bragging rights for the second straight year as the winner of the 2013-14 Mayor's Cup Challenge.
The Vikings won the point-based competition that pits 16 common, equally weighted, sports by a score of 14-5. Each school's fan base was also involved in the competition by participating in two community engagement events during the school year, with both earning a point for their school. Augustana won the inaugural Mayor's Cup by a margin of 13-6 in 2012-13.
By placing equal emphasis on all spots, the series helps to build community awareness for less publicized Olympic sports. The series focuses on the message that "Every Game Counts" and that the rivalry between the schools is a year-long affair.Augustana won head-to-head competitions over USF in soccer, men's basketball, women's tennis, baseball, men's golf, women's golf, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.
