HUMBOLDT, S.D. (KELO AM) – The South Dakota Department of Transportation is advising motorists that a 21-mile stretch of Highway 19 will be closed from Highway 38 in Humboldt to two miles south of Highway 34 near Madison (237th St/Walkers Point) beginning Tomorrow.
The reconstruction of Highway 19 will include grading, resurfacing, drainage improvement, widening of shoulders and improving site distances.
Access for local traffic will be maintained and a detour route provided on Highway 81 for through traffic from Highway 19 during the closure.
After Labor Day, the second phase of the project, from 237th Street to Highway 34, will begin and an additional 2.5 miles will be closed to traffic. More information on this will be sent out at a later date.
The prime contractor on this $14.6 million project is Loiseau Construction of Flandreau.
The overall completion date is Nov. 26, 2014, when the roadway will be fully opened to traffic again.
