Johnson pushes minimum wage hike

Washington, DC (KELO-AM) South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson (D) says he is disappointed that Senate Republicans blocked a hike in the federal minimum wage.

The soon-to-be-retiring Johnson says the increase would have meant that over 60,000 South Dakotans would have seen more in their paychecks.

Johnson is urging South Dakota voters to approve Initiated Measure 18 on the ballot in November to raise South Dakota's minimum wage.

Critics of minimum wage hikes, including South Dakota Senator John Thune (R) say they would kill jobs and hurt what is a slow economic recovery.
