Sioux Falls, SD (KWSN) – Day one of the Summit League baseball tournament presented by First PREMIER bank and PREMIER BankCard is in the books, and once again the SDSU Jackrabbits find themselves behind the 8 ball in the loser’s bracket. The top seeded Jacks could not complete a 9th inning comeback, falling to #4 NDSU 4-3. SDSU trailed 4-2 going into the 9th and was able to put one run on the board when Zach Coppola doubled to plate Scott Splett, however one batter later a flyout to second base would kill the Jacks rally and send SDSU to an elimination game on Friday.
In game one Ft. Wayne was defeated by Western Illinois 8-7 in ten innings. The Mastodons tied the game at 7 with two runs in the top of the 9th; however the Leathernecks would steal the show in the 10th when JJ Reimer hit a walk-off single scoring Zack Burling.
Friday’s schedule shapes up as follows:
11AM - Ft Wayne vs SDSU (elimination game)
3PM - NDSU vs Western Illinois (semifinal)
7PM – Winner of game one vs loser of game two (elimination game)
