The Minnesota Vikings brought back two familiar faces this week. After the injury to wide receiver Chad Beebe, the Vikings announced that they signed Laquon Treadwell and Marcus Sherels.
These were very smart moves by the Vikings’ front office. In the NFL you don’t have a lot of time to waste trying to find players that fit. The Vikings went out and found two “plug and play” pieces right away.
Hate on the signings today all you want but Marcus Sherels and Laquon Treadwell are both "plug and play" for the #Vikings.
We have to be thankful that they were both available and can play right away not wasting any time with playbooks, signals, or chemistry.

What Marcus Sherels brings to the Minnesota Vikings
It truly will feel like Marcus Sherels never left the team . Sherels has spent his entire ‘playing career’ with the Vikings and is a long-time fan favorite. In addition to that, he played college football in Minnesota for the Gophers.
During his prior 9 years with the Vikings, Sherels returned 5 punts for touchdowns. He has an impressive average of 10.6 yards a punt return. Furthermore, he has not shown any signs of slowing down either. In 2018 he averaged 12 yards a punt return.
Sherels is also good on all other special teams. He makes plays on the kickoff and punt team units as well. His last benefit is that he provides deep depth as a defensive back if needed. Marcus Sherels is an all-around team leader and asset.
What Laquon Treadwell brings to the Minnesota Vikings
Laquon Treadwell doesn’t necessarily have Vikings fans jumping to their seats by coming back. After a season filled with too many drops last year, the team was ready to move on from him.
A couple of injuries later here we are. Treadwell has been given a second chance. I feel some time away from the team will do him good. A chance to reset his mind and come back to prove himself.
The Vikings are more run-heavy this season. That is great news for Treadwell because he is an excellent run blocker. If he can simply block and catch balls when he is wide open, this will be a good relationship going forward. They don’t need anything more than that out of him. He can also contribute on kickoff coverage.
To wrap it up
At the end of the day, these two guys were the readiest players to jump in and play against Chicago this week. While there may have been more talent out there, that would have required a lot more vetting and training to get them on board and up to speed. This move will allow the Vikings to keep doing what they do, while they attempt to win their fan base it’s first Super Bowl victory.
