WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump will discuss a strategy to reopen the nation’s schools at a briefing at 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT) on Thursday, White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said.
McEnany said in a Fox News Channel interview that Trump will focus on a plan to open public schools that were abruptly shuttered when the novel coronavirus began to spread across the country this spring. She added that the institutions are key to identifying child abuse cases and to helping women return to work, as they primarily provide childcare in the country.
“Look, this president’s been clear: we want schools to reopen,” she said.
