SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Attendance at the Sioux Empire Fair was down in this COVID-19 year, but not as much as expected.
“We were down about 31 percent in our attendance and we had budgeted to be down close to 50.”
The Fair’s Scott Wick tells the Minnehaha County Commission that they were lucky this year compared to other fairs around the state, from what he’s heard.
“To the best of my knowledge, we didn’t have any major employers telling their staff not to come to our fair. The other fairs were not as fortunate.”
The Sioux Empire Fair is the largest in South Dakota, located at the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds.
There were extensive safety measures at this year’s fair. Patrons were encouraged to wear masks and to maintain social distancing. Hand sanitizer and hand washing stations were available throughout the grounds.
