SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Officials at Union Gospel Mission are inviting the Sioux Falls community to join in the Mission’s preparations for its Christmas celebration.
“Gift-giving through Union Gospel Mission’s Christmas Shop is a long-time tradition,” said Eric Weber, executive director. “And because COVID has affected so many individuals and families economically, we need to make sure we have enough presents for every man, woman, and child who comes through this Christmas season.”
Weber said new hoodies for adults and children are at the top of the Mission’s list. “We gave out around 800 last year! We like to collect 1380 for adults and 300 for children. We also need new socks and underwear, new toys and personal care items.” Weber is requesting donations to be brought to the Mission by Dec. 15th.
Christmas can be joyless and lonely for people who are disconnected from family, and trying to survive on the streets, Weber said. “We can change that by offering safe shelter, a holiday feast, simple gifts, and an opportunity to celebrate Jesus’ birth, as a family here at UGM. I’ve seen people come into our doors discouraged, hurting, and hungry, and an hour later, they are smiling and hopeful about the future. But we need community support to make it happen.”
