PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Avera is one of the five medical providers in South Dakota tasked with distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to specified areas in the state.
Dr. Mikel Holland is the President and Chief Medical Officer of Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. He says vaccine distribution is a collaborative effort.
He says Avera St. Mary’s is responsible for providing vaccines for Hughes, Stanley, Sully, and Jones counties.
Holland says the supply of the COVID-19 vaccine coming in has been steady.
Starting Monday, the State of South Dakota will drop the eligible age for receiving a COVID-19 vaccine from the current 75 years to 70 years and older, as allocations allow.
