SIOUX FALLS (Canaries) – The Sioux Falls Canaries (13-14) fell to the Miluwakee Milkmen in extra innings by a final score of 5-4 Thursday at The Birdcage. The Birds will head to Fargo, North Dakota for a weekend series against the Redhawks beginning Friday at 7:02 pm.
Canaries starter Carlos Pimentel was dominant. He struck out ten in five innings of excellent work to power the Sioux Falls staff. Relievers Grady Wood and Charlie Hasty combined for two innings of scoreless relief in the sixth and seventh. Canaries pitchers struck out 14 in the game.
Logan Landon stayed red hot for the Birds in the loss. The center fielder notched three hits, including his sixth homer of the season. He finished with three home runs in the series. The Birds also got a three-hit game from left fielder Wyatt Ulrich and a two-hit game from DH Jabari Henry.
Jackson Maynard (0-1) was credited with the loss for the Canaries. Maynard pitched in the 10th inning and allowed two hits, one run and two walks. He entered after Trevor Simms, who allowed a two-run, game-tying home run to David Washington in the eighth.
Karch Kowalczyk (1-1) was credited with the win for the Milkmen (17-10). Kowalczyk pitched for two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four Birds. Matthias Dietz notched his first save of the year by leaving two aboard in the bottom of the 10th.
The Canaries head to Fargo to meet the Redhawks (17-11) for the first time this season. Starters for Friday’s matchup are TBA. Fans can hear the game on Fox Sports 98.1 FM, AM 1230 and KWSN.com.
