DELL RAPIDS, S.D. (KELO.com) — As the lack of measurable rainfall continues, the Big Sioux River water levels are dwindling. Linsey Duffy of Dell Rapids photographed the difference in water levels at the Dell Rapids dam and says this is the lowest she has ever seen the river.
Mike Gillispie, of the Sioux Falls National Weather Service, says the river below Dell Rapids is about five feet below normal. The kind of rainfall that could put a dent in drought conditions isn’t likely in the coming week either. Forecast models show around an inch of rain through the first week of July. Normal rainfall would be closer to two.
