CLEBURNE, Texas (Canaries) – Jabari Henry went deep twice, and Mike Hart tied the all-time single season American Association hit-by-pitch record Tuesday in Cleburne. The Birds carried a two-run lead to the ninth but fell 6-5 in the middle contest of the three-game set vs. the Railroaders.
Henry carded his second two-homer game in less than a week with a two-run shot in the first and another two-run blast in the fifth. He now has twenty home runs for the season. He also went deep twice Thursday vs. Houston.
Hart drew a sixth-inning hit-by-pitch from Daniel James to equal the single-season American Association record (22), set by Jake Kahaulelio in 2013. The HBP was the 80th for the Canaries this season, which ties the team with the 2019 St. Paul Saints for most in a single season.
Joey Wagman recorded five innings of two-run, five-hit ball as the Birds starter. He received a no-decision. Caleb Frare (0-5) suffered the loss after allowing three runs in the ninth.
The Canaries entered the final square up 5-3 before the Railroaders took advantage of a pair of errors to ultimately win the game. Skyler Ewing had a game-tying home run, and Alay Lago won it in walk-off fashion with a sacrifice fly. Former Texas Ranger Nick Gardewine (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Railroaders.
The Canaries finish the three-game set in Cleburne at 7:06 pm Tuesday. RHP Tyler Garkow (5-8, 5.13 ERA) gets the ball as the Birds starter. RHP Jalen Evans (1-2, 5.24 ERA) will start for Cleburne. The Canaries return to The Birdcage August 30-September 6 to close the season.
