SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Department has recently confirmed the presence of Zebra Mussels in Lake Mitchell.
Game Fish & Parks started their investigation after receiving a picture of a possible adult Zebra Mussel found in the lake.
Zebra Mussels are considered an invasive species.
Their sharp shells can limit the use of swimming beaches, and they’ve been found living inside of water intake structures on boat engines, which can restrict the movement of water throughout the engine.
Game Fish & Parks reminds recreational boaters to clean all boating equipment after exiting any body of water.
