BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The City of Brookings announces an incentive program to encourage residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The plan involves giving away $50,000 through ten $5000 prizes as well as 10 $1000 scholarships to SDSU students.
Brookings Chief Financial Officer Eric Wrangel says funding for the incentive program comes from the federal American Rescue Plan.
He says they see the program as a good investment because of the potential savings in public health costs from increased vaccinations.
The Swiftel Center is partnering in the program.
The drawings will be open to any Brookings County resident who has received a vaccination.
The newly vaccinated may be eligible for two entries.
Money for the scholarships comes from the SDSU Foundation.
