SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) — Here’s your morning sports update for Thursday, January 20, 2022.
– The Minnesota Vikings have completed head coach interviews with the two top assistants for the Dallas Cowboys: offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Moore just finished his fourth season with the Cowboys and third in the coordinator role. He played quarterback at Boise State and for six years in the NFL, with Detroit and Dallas. Quinn was the head coach in Atlanta for five-plus years until he was fired by the Falcons five games into the 2020 season. He joined the Cowboys’ staff in 2021.
– The Minnesota Timberwolves blew a 12-point halftime lead in Atlanta last night, falling to the Hawks 134-122. Trae Young scored 23 of his 37 points in the third quarter, sparking Atlanta’s comeback. The Hawks started the second half on a 20-2 run. D’Angelo Russell led Minnesota with 31 points. Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards drew two technical fouls and was ejected in the third quarter.
– South Dakota men’s basketball look to win their fourth straight game tonight. The Coyotes are on the road at Western Illinois. USD is 3-3 in Summit League play. Coverage tonight begins at 5:30 with tip-off at 6 on Q 95.7. The South Dakota State men are at St. Thomas tonight; tip-off is at 7 p.m. On the women’s side, USD hosts Western Illinois at 7, and SDSU hosts St. Thomas, also at 7 p.m.
– Iowa men’s basketball lost a defensive struggle to Rutgers last night 48-46. Ron Harper Jr. made two free throws with two seconds left to seal the win for Rutgers.
– Shorthanded Iowa State women’s basketball lost to Texas last night, 66-48. The Cyclones were missing star sisters Aubrey and Ashley Joens due to Big 12 COVID protocols.
