SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — After a tight 40 minutes, the Waterloo Black Hawks turned on the jets in the final frame to defeat the Sioux Falls Stampede 7-3 Friday night at the PREMIER Center. Jack Silich, Karsen Dorwart, and Daniel Russell each scored for the Stampede while Micah Berger tallied his first USHL assist. Sioux Falls netminder Isak Posch made 31 stops on 38 shots between the pipes.
The Stampede did not get off to the start they were hoping for, allowing Waterloo to score the first goal of the game at 12:42 in the first period. That would be the only goal scored in the period, with the Herd being outshot 12-8 in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Black Hawks would add to that lead just 43 seconds into the second period when Garrett Schifsky tallied his 27th of the season. The Herd would answer back at 15:13 in the period and bring the score within one, with Jack Silich taking a feed from Micah Berger and shooting it five-hole on the Waterloo netminder for his fifth of the year. The Stampede would finish the period outshooting the Black Hawks 13-9.
Waterloo would take charge in the third, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 6:22 of the period. Karsen Dorwart would get one back for the Stampede at 9:11, beating the Waterloo netminder five-hole for his eighth of the year. Waterloo would make it 6-2 at 12:56 off a goal from former Stampede forward Ray Fust. The Herd weren’t done fighting, though, as Daniel Russell netted his 19th of the season on a breakaway. Waterloo would conclude the night’s scoring with one more goal at 16:57, and would go on to outshoot Sioux Falls 17-8 in the period and 38-29 in the game.
The Black Hawks were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Stampede were 0-for-3.
