SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Several winter weather warnings and advisories are currently in effect across the northern plains.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued these warnings ahead of an incoming cold front that will bring about powerful winds, widespread blowing snow, and dangerously cold windchills.
A Blizzard Warning that was issued for central Minnesota has now been expanded to include several counties in the eastern portion of the KELO listening area.
Blowing snow will create white-out conditions that will make travel nearly impossible.
A Wind Chill Warning is in effect until noon on Saturday as wind chills are expected to drop to as low as -50 degrees, especially during the overnight hours.
These temperatures can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
As the system continues to take shape, additional advisories may be issued by the National Weather Service.
This will become a very dangerous situation over the next few days, so try to stay home if travel isn’t necessary.
Monitor road conditions if you do need to travel, and check back in with KELO.com for more updates on yet another impactful winter storm.
