WATERLOO, IA (KELO.com) – The Sioux Falls Stampede dropped their series finale against the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-3 after scoring three unanswered in the third period at Young Arena Saturday evening. Will Dineen, Cal Thomas and Cole Sillinger recorded the three straight goals. Trent Burnham made the start in net, stopping 24 of 28 shots.
The Waterloo Black Hawks kept the onslaught of shots and goals coming in the series finale, continuing their dominance from last night with the first four goals of the game. Wyatt Schingoethe scored at 9:53 of the first period, Garrett Schifsky at :44 seconds and Kyler Kleven at 7:15 into the second period, and finally Max Sasson at 1:54 into the third period period.
The Stampede did not quit and scored the next three unanswered goals. Will Dineen was able to jam in a Luke Toporowski rebounded shot under the pads Emmett Croteau at 5:27 of the period on the power play. Nine minutes later rookie defenseman Cal Thomas collected his first career league goal to bring the deficit within two and Cole Sillinger scored his final career goal with 1:25 left in regulation. The Herd was unable to tie the game with Trent Burnham pulled in the final seconds of the game.
Sillinger will finish his Stampede career with 45 points on 24 goals and 21 assists in 31 games played. With one goal and one assist on the night, Sillinger will break the Stampede career points per game record set by Thomas Vanek in 2001 with 1.45 points per game. Vanek’s record stood at 1.42 points/game. He will go on to compete with Team Canada at the IIHF U18s World Championship in Plano, Texas, beginning April 26.
The team will return home to face off against the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday, April 16 for Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Sioux Empire Federal Credit Union.
