SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – The Sioux Falls Storm improved to 4-3 after a dominating 52-27 win against the Bismarck Bucks on Saturday, June 26.
The Storm would be the only team to score in the first quarter. First with a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Nate Chavious and then a quarterback sneak by Tommy Armstrong, giving the Storm a 13-0 lead.
The Storm would extend their lead to 20-0 to begin the second quarter after a 14-yard pass to Jordan Smith from Tommy Armstrong. The Bucks answered with a two-yard rushing touchdown by Raheem Harvey, bringing the score to 20-6. The Storm then scored a three-yard touchdown to Nate Chavious from Tommy Armstrong, extending the lead to 26-6. The Bucks answered back with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Richard Stammetti to Mike Carrigan, bringing the score to 26-13. The Storm closed out the half with a 29-13 lead after a 26-yard field goal by Chase Vinatieri.
The Bucks would start the third quarter with possession but threw an interception to Reid Harrison-Ducros. The Storm capitalized after an eight-yard quarterback keeper by Tommy Armstrong, extending the lead to 36-13. The Bucks ended the third quarter with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Justin Rankin from Richard Stammetti and a 36-19 score.
The Storm scored back-to-back touchdowns to take a 52-19 lead to start the fourth quarter. The first touchdown was a two-yard sweep by Brandon Sheperd with a successful two-point conversion by Nate Chavious and then a two-yard rushing touchdown by Nate Chavious with a successful two-point conversion by Julius Wingate. The Bucks answered with a six-yard touchdown pass to JT Stokes from Richard Stammetti, bringing the final score to 52-27.
Storm quarterback Tommy Armstrong completed eight passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns and one interception along with 18 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Running back Nate Chavious had 23 rushing yards and two touchdowns along with 18 reception yards and one touchdown. Wide receivers Brandon Sheperd had 76 reception yards along with 12 rushing yards and one touchdown, Jordan Smith had 14 reception yards and one touchdown and Alonzo Moore had 49 reception yards and one touchdown. Defensive back Famus Hasty led the Thunder Defense with nine total tackles and two pass break-ups. Linebacker Marquis Hendrix had eight tackles. Defensive linemen Gershom Ejoni had four tackles and one tackle for loss, Devon’te Jest had two tackle for loss and Ch’aim Smith had one sack. Defensive back Jermaine Robinson had two interceptions and one pass break-up while Trey Wafford and Reid Harrison-Ducros each had one interception. Kicker Chase Vinatieri made one field goal and three extra points.
The Sioux Falls Storm enter a bye week this week. The Storm return to action on July 10th for a battle against the Spokane Shock.
