SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Canaries) – Trey Michalczewski and Mike Hart each hit home runs Sunday, but the Canaries dropped the fourth game in the five-game set by a final of 5-3.
Michalczewski teed off of Sioux City Explorers starter Brett Adcock for a two-run shot that cut the early X’s lead to 4-2. Hart sent a solo shot over the right-field wall in the seventh to once again bring the Canaries back within two runs. The homer was the 12th of the year for Michalczewski and the 11th of the year for Hart.
Joey Wagman (1-2) suffered the loss as the Canaries starter. He went five innings, scattering five hits while allowing four runs (three earned). He struck out four and walked four. Adcock picked up the win for the X’s. He improved to 5-8 on the season by limiting the Birds to four hits and three runs (three earned). Max Kuhns earned his second save with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Canaries and Explorers will finish the final regular season series of the 2021 season at The Birdcage on Monday. First pitch from Canaries starter RHP Tyler Garkow (5-9, 5.07 ERA) will be at 1:05 PM. The Explorers starting pitcher is TBA. Sioux City can clinch a playoff spot with a win.
