SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – It’s been just over a month since residents in a Sioux Falls neighborhood voiced their outrage over ugly green boxes sprouting up in their front yard.
Vast Broadband’s fiber-optic network expansion had resulted in building the boxes in the utility easement on properties.
But when the neighbors went to the press, Vast promised to replace the front yard boxes with below ground boxes.
So far they’ve replaced 100 boxes, with another 300 yet to replace.
Vast will continue to use the pedestals when installing in backyards.
The City Council thanked Vast for its quick response.
Will Bushee, one of the citizens who alerted the City Council to the issue, wasn’t so quick to praise the company asking the Council who would be holding Vast accountable for making the changes. Bushee also pointed out that Midco and CenturyLink had utility pedestals in the front yards. He asked, “Why aren’t those companies being required to come back and make that right?”
