DES MOINES, IA (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls Stampede fell to the Des Moines Buccaneers, 1-2, Saturday evening. The Stampede are now 12-16-1 this season, with a record of 10-15-1 in United States Hockey League play.
A scoreless first period found activity within the penalty boxes of the Herd and Buccaneers instead of the goals. The second period was equally inactive until a late-in-the-period, power-play goal from Sam Harris. Harris found the back of the net on a one-timer from Maddox Fleming and Isaac Gordon.
With just under ten minutes left in the third period, Sioux Falls’ Max Rud was called for a hooking penalty, sending Des Moines onto the powerplay. Moments later, Talon Sigurdson was able to stop the shutout and get the Buccaneers onto the board. The Buccaneers were awarded a game-winning goal after controversial goalie interference took place with just under a minute in the game.
The Stampede’s Xavier Medina marked 39 saves on the night, allowing two. Sam Harris marked the lone goal for the team, with Fleming and Gordon tallying the assists.
The Herd is back at the Denny Sanford Premier Center for a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Sioux City Musketeers. Doors open at 3 p.m. with puck drop at 4:05 p.m.
