SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Way less than one percent of students and staff in Sioux Falls Public Schools have tested positive for COVID-19.
“Our students right now are at .11 percent of our student population and our staff is at .37 percent,” School Superintendant Jane Stavem shares the numbers with the school board.
Stavem adds that many more students and staff are under quarantine because of close contact.
The school district may consider changing its quarantine rules at a special school board meeting.
This is apparently the first time school officials have shared such COVID-19 statistics at a public meeting. Usually, only the parents involved are notified of a child’s case.
Stavem also tells the school board that nearly 100 percent of students are wearing face masks. She’s heard few complaints.
“One of our high students said its become like her security blanket. She said if I forget it in the car, I have to run out because I feel like I’m naked without it.”
