Construction of the new South Dakota men’s penitentiary approved and signed into law

Pierre, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden signed a bill into law last night that makes way for construction of a new men’s penitentiary in northeastern Sioux Falls. The 650-million-dollar facility is the most expensive project in state history. Republican Representative Tim Reisch, who’s also a former warden of the pen, says the new facility provides space for rehab programs that are desperately needed for inmates. Governor Rhoden also established a new task force yesterday to focus on developing new rehab programs.
