SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The largest judicial caseload in South Dakota is getting larger. Judge Robin Houwman, who presides over the 2nd Judicial Circuit, gave her annual report to Minnehaha County Commissioners this morning. The 2nd Circuit, which includes Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties, had 35% of the state’s cases last year. Judge Houwman says the caseload is growing, “We’ve seen a 17% increase in neglect and abuse cases this year so far. We thought it was important to let you know at the beginning of the year, we recommend an increase of $150-thousand.” Judge Houwman says the number of murder and rape cases is also increasing. The 2nd Circuit has 19 judges.
