Aug 27 (Field Level Media) – ATLANTA — World No. 16 J.J. Spaun withdrew from the season-ending Tour Championship after playing four holes in the first round on Thursday due to a shoulder injury.
After a par on the opening hole, Spaun appeared headed for another strong start. But he carded two bogeys around a double bogey at No. 3 and was 4-over par before he withdrew.
Min Woo Lee, paired with Spaun for their 11:48 a.m. ET tee time at East Lake Golf Club, continued the first round solo.
Spaun, 36, finished 22nd last week at the BMW Championship in St. Louis. He shot six-under 64 in the first round at Bellerive Country Club, then carded a 66 in the second round on his 36th birthday to sit two back of the lead entering the weekend.
The 2025 U.S. Open champion, Spaun won the Valero Texas Open in April and had nine top 25 finishes on the season.
