Last night I dreamt over and over that I was getting abandoned. People would come to pick me up to take me home but would leave before I could get to them. - Alison 42, Chattanooga, TN
Lauri: When we dream something over and over like that, it is usually because the dream is connected to a waking life issue or behavior that happens again and again. The act of trying to get home tells me that you are trying to get back to some sort of normalcy in your life, back to a comfortable routine or back to a comfortable mindset. But you keep getting left behind. How in real life are you feeling left behind? Or perhaps the dream is telling you that you can't rely on others right now.
Alison replies: There are a few things I think the abandonment applies to: 1. I wish I could get back to being a smart intelligent woman who can remember things and clearly resolve problems (stupid hormones). 2. I often feel left behind in social situations since so many of the people I know have known each other so long and I am new. So often I feel misunderstood, like they don't "get" me. 3. My mom (whom I can't rely on) and I have very little other familial support.
Fascinating Sleep Fact: Animal studies have shown that animals forced to stay awake at night and sleep in the light develop more malignant tumors and die sooner than animals with normal sleep cycles. Research on humans has also linked years of overnight work among women to higher breast cancer rates, with a similar effect on prostate cancer in men. - IARC
