LINCOLN, NE (KWSN.com) — The Sioux Falls Stampede came away with a 3-2 lead after a thrilling third period that saw two power play goals off of a five-minute major. Sam Harris tallied another goal to give him five on the season while Noah Andersson scored his first career USHL goal and netminder Tucker Tynan stood strong between the pipes, making 32 saves on 34 shots.
The Stampede showcased a solid penalty kill in the first twenty minutes of play, killing off two Stars chances on the man advantage. Ryan Gordon had the lone goal at 7:34 in the first, knocking in a rebounded Michael LaStarza shot at the netminder’s doorstep to give the Herd a 1-0 lead. Sioux Falls was outshot 11-9 in the first period.
The Stampede held strong in a scoreless second period, killing off another penalty while being outshot 10-7 by the Stars.
Lincoln finally found the back of the net two minutes into the third period of play, tying the game 1-1. A nasty hit on Clint Levens resulted in a five-minute major to the Stars, and Harris immediately capitalized on the power play by tipping in Maddox Fleming‘s shot to give the Herd back their one-goal lead. Because the call was a five-minute major, the Herd continued on the power play and Andersson tallied his first career USHL goal after stuffing a bouncing puck into the net to make it 3-1. Lincoln got one back at 11:21 in the third before pulling their goalie for the extra attacker with less than a minute remaining after another Stampede power play. The Herd fought hard in the final thrilling seconds and held off Lincoln’s charge to win it 3-2.
The Stampede were outshot 13-6 in the final period and 34-22 in the game. They went 2-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
