STURGIS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s Internet Crimes Against Children or ICAC operation netted a half-dozen arrests during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this year.
All six engaged with ICAC agents and detectives posing as children or as traffickers offering children for prostitution.
Two also may face additional federal immigration and charges and deportation proceedings.
During the operation, the law enforcement officers posted ads and/or profiles on various Internet sites and social media platforms providing offenders the opportunity to communicate with whom they believed to be minors or traffickers offering children for prostitution.
This was the 14th consecutive year of the ICAC operation during the Sturgis Rally. Since its inception, the operation has resulted in the arrest of approximately 104 offenders who were willing to sexually abuse children.
Agencies assisting ICAC in this year’s operation were the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Attorney General’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), US Marshals Service (USMS), and Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office.
