SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — In this election year, some candidates are touting South Dakota’s strong economy, while others say the state’s economic growth is the slowest in the nation. It turns out, they’re both right. Government data shows South Dakota suffered negative growth in the first quarter of the this year because of downturns in farming, forestry, fishing and hunting. The state’s growth was among the nation’s best in the fourth quarter of last year, second only to North Dakota for the nation’s fastest growth rate.
