SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council will be asked to give final approval to a conditional gifting agreement with the Bezos Earth Fund next month. Former Mayor Paul TenHaken announced the $15-million gift last week. It will be used to redevelop part of Falls Park – a hidden quarry that will provide a nature experience within walking distance for residents of the nearby Whittier neighborhood. Mike Patton of Parks & Recreation says the city attracted the gift with the intense planning process that went into developing the Falls park Master Plan that was unveiled earlier this year. “I think this speaks volumes to how important it is that we dream. A lot of you (Park Board members) were part of that process. We created a really impressive vision, and it just goes to show that by doing that, it can pay off sometimes.” The City Council will hold second reading on the conditional gifting agreement with the Bezos Earth Fund next month.
